Gematria is the numeric value of Hebrew letters. Every letter of the alef-beis has a number: א is 1 through ט is 9, י is 10 through צ is 90, and ק is 100 through ת is 400. The gematria of a word is the sum of its letters: חי is 8 + 10 = 18, and אמת is 1 + 40 + 400 = 441.
Final letters (ך ם ן ף ץ) count like their regular forms, 20, 40, 50, 80 and 90, as is the common practice. Vowel points, cantillation marks and punctuation are ignored.
